The College Transfer Guru
Los Angeles based transfer specialist Steve Burleigh has helped families throughout the U.S. and internationally navigate the daunting challenges facing the college transfer applicant. He has assisted a wide spectrum of students from students at four year universities who still need to find the right college fit, to California community college students who are overwhelmed by the transfer process. Transfer planning can be a confusing mash-up of details and requirements starting with selecting the right major. There are general ed requirements, major prerequisite course requirements, minimum number of transferrable credits (units), deciphering which courses are transferrable, application deadlines, midyear report, school report, letters of recommendation, syllabi/no syllabi, course descriptions, multiple essays to be written and more. Steve is an experienced educational consultant with more than ten years of experience specializing in college transfer admissions. He has assisted students in all majors including STEM, humanities, social sciences, business, and visual and performing arts. Steve will help you successfully organize and navigate the entire transfer process so that you achieve your goal – admission to the college that is the best fit for you.
He holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and the Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension where he taught for eight years in the online college counseling certificate program. He is a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Western Association of College Admission Counselors (WACAC), and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). He has been a participant in the WACAC California Legislative Conference and has volunteered at programs such as StepUp Women’s Network, Los Angeles Unified School District’s Summer College Boot Camp, and volunteered for several summers with College Summit (now called Peer Forward) Summer Workshops. He has been a presenter of college information workshops at libraries in the Los Angeles area including Westwood, Santa Monica, Compton, and Calabasas, as well as at local service organizations including Kiwanis and Rotary.
